Terry Twala
Philanabo was founded by Terry Twala, a Mining Engineer who was always inquisitive about the well-being and life-after-mines of employees and colleagues.
Terry started his career as learner official on Anglo American’s Vaal Reefs gold mines back in 1992. Having seen how livelihoods are impacted by mining, especially in Orkney and in Virginia, he later gravitated from mining production to consulting the social performance.
He harnessed his social consulting skills at the SSC Group, Hebron Consulting and at MTS Holding, and subsequently established Philanabo Social Performance Consulting in 2021.
Terry has a National Diploma in Mine Survey (Wits Technikon), B Tech Mining Engineering (University of Johannesburg), BComm (University of South Africa) and an MBA (GIBS – University of Pretoria).
Desirée Lourens has over 15 years’ experience in consulting, specialising in Social and Labour Plans and the Mining Charter Scorecard. In 2022, she obtained a SAP Certified Application Associate Global Certificate in Procurement with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP7. The SAP certification verifies that she possesses knowledge in procurement and has the requisite experience to implement projects in this regard.
In addition to her experience in Social and Labour Plans, Desirée has also been providing advisory services in the area of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment since 2010.

Obakeng Mogalanyane
Obakeng Mogalanyane is an experienced and results driven Metallurgical Engineer with experience in the mining and mineral industries.Proven track record in undertaking technical feasibility studies, project assessment, project development, flowsheet development and project execution.
Adept at managing a multidisciplinary team and provides leadership and technical support to teams across various disciplines to deliver projects while strictly adhering to safety and quality standards.
BTech Human Resources Management (DUT).
BCom Honours Industrial Psychology (UNISA).
N Dip Human Resources Management (Technikon Natal).
Buyie is skilled and well experienced with more than 10 years’ HR experience. Having started her career as a Professional-in-Training (HR) with Kumba Iron Ore, Sishen Mine.
She has been involved in various HR Projects at operational level, including Strategic Business Projects at different Kumba Iron Ore operations. Her experience in the projects include carrying ‘Lead’ functions for certain streams of projects like the Thabazimbi Mine Closure Project.
